Cai Wensheng: AI Reshapes Productivity, Web3 Reshapes Production Relations, Data Becomes Most Valuable

According to BlockBeats, at the AI × New Finance Innovation Global Tour's Hong Kong station, where the Yangtze Star Program was also launched, Cai Wensheng, an angel investor and chairman of CAI Holdings, said on Aug. 29 that AI essentially changes productivity, while Web3 is closer to changing production relations. He argued that a new technology cycle would still lack an important link if it only brings AI-driven efficiency gains without corresponding changes in finance and production relations. The investor further said humanity is now transitioning from an industrial and information society into a data society, where data will become the most valuable resource. For companies, he suggested applying AI first to boost existing business and organizational efficiency, then creating new business models on top of that foundation. He also predicted that as Web3 develops, data will circulate more easily and gradually break through the boundaries of platforms and geographic regions.

CKGSB professor Sudan says AI-Web3 convergence becomes more certain as AI moves into trade execution

Sudan, an assistant professor of finance at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, said at an event in Hong Kong on Aug. 29 that the combination of AI and Web3 is becoming increasingly certain as AI moves beyond information assistance and toward making decisions and carrying out tasks for users. He said that once AI begins executing transactions directly, payment and asset ownership confirmation will become unavoidable steps, creating a clear role for Web3 and digital currencies. Sudan also said AI is changing how companies compete. In his view, the AI products that will matter in the future will not stop at handling a small step in a workflow. They will need to build a full business loop and take responsibility for final outcomes. As model capabilities and workflows become more commoditized, he said companies’ competitive moats will shift more toward proprietary data, real-world use cases, and deeply integrated business processes.

MAGNE.AI pushes beyond a Web3 phone into edge AI and agent infrastructure

MAGNE.AI is no longer being framed only as a Web3 smartphone project. Public materials reviewed from RootData, regulatory filings and the company’s own disclosures show a broader buildout across devices, edge AI, identity rails and machine payments. On the hardware side, MAGNE Phone Gen1 is listed at the PVT P2 stage after Pre-EVT and EVT P1, with first-batch manufacturing targeted for the third quarter of 2026. The company has also published FCC-linked materials, a 3D phone structure viewer and staged production updates. On the enterprise side, MAGNE AI BOX is being positioned for private AI and edge-compute deployments, with a Release Gate framework, one local run validation for a Qwen3.6-35B-A3B Q4_K_M artifact, and a Gate 1 plan to build three prototypes for performance, thermal, offline and recovery testing. Agent Pay, meanwhile, has shown a local contract demo and testnet evidence, but end-to-end HTTP 402 flows are still under development and production payments are not open. MAGNE.AI disclosed a $2.64 million strategic follow-on round on Aug. 5, 2026, bringing cumulative public financing to $12.64 million by its own account. Even so, the article argues the key questions now are delivery, prototype validation, public testnet payment proof and whether community participation can convert into actual device users.

m&W Joins Dragon AI Accelerator in Strategic Partnership on AI and Web3

The Dragon AI accelerator (DAA), an initiative launched by Draper Dragon Fund, has announced a strategic partnership with m&W (m&W DAO). According to the announcement, m&W will formally join DAA, and the two sides will cooperate in AI, Web3 and digital collaboration networks, with a focus on connecting strong builders, innovative projects and ecosystem resources. DAA will provide m&W with advisory services and links to investment institutions and industry resources, in line with the design of its accelerator program. The two sides' underlying thesis is that in the AI era, the basic unit of productivity is Builder plus Digital Twin. m&W is committed to establishing a trusted collaboration order for the AI era. The project has already achieved a cold start through DAO mechanisms: its official website is live; a product MVP that aggregates and consolidates builders is live; and m&W has completed the assembly of nine genesis nodes. It is now preparing to operate 200 consensus nodes. The news was initially reported by ChainCatcher.

Taipei Blockchain Week Rebrands as FUTUREMODE, Expanding Into AI and Emerging Tech in September 2026

Taipei Blockchain Week, an event that has been held in Taiwan for more than a decade, is being rebranded as FUTUREMODE this year. According to information released by the organizer, the event will run from Sept. 4 to Sept. 6, 2026, at Taipei Expo Park’s Pavilion of Dreams and shift beyond its earlier blockchain- and Web3-centered focus to cover AI, digital assets, and broader emerging technology topics. The event is organized by experience design company Onboard, with Google Cloud and the Taiwan Blockchain Enthusiasts Association, or TABEI, listed as co-organizers. Organizers estimate the three-day program will draw more than 10,000 attendees, feature over 150 speakers, and include more than 30 workshops. A separate BUILDMODE hackathon, co-hosted with student computing conference SITCON, is expected to bring in more than 500 developers across six AI-related tracks. FUTUREMODE will also include a digital art exhibition and a music festival. Organizer Tiffany Lai said the future will emerge where technology, culture, and community meet, while the broader Taipei schedule places the event as the final stop in a nine-day, four-event technology run spanning late August to early September.

Report says two-thirds of neobanks lack full banking licenses, with AI in production at just 18%

A report highlighted by Consensys and MetaMask developer relations lead Francesco Andreoli says the global neobank sector is far larger, and more fragile, than many users realize. Andreoli said he tracked and verified 368 active neobanks that together report 1.46 billion users worldwide. Yet only 127 of those firms hold full banking licenses, leaving roughly two-thirds dependent on sponsor banks, e-money permissions, or banking-as-a-service infrastructure. The data points to Asia as the dominant market with 817 million users, led by China’s WeBank at more than 400 million. Europe’s Revolut, while still one of the best-known names in the segment, was cited at more than 50 million users. Andreoli also said the industry mix is shifting, with 56 surviving neobanks founded in the 2020s classified as Web3-native self-custodial apps, and another 58 operating hybrid fiat-and-crypto models. The report also challenged claims around artificial intelligence adoption. Of the 368 firms reviewed, only 67 were said to have deployed AI in production, or about 18%. Andreoli added that many of the real-world AI lending use cases are appearing in emerging markets such as Nigeria, the Philippines, Mexico, and Bangladesh rather than in Western markets.
